Last weekend on Sunday, morning 08 August at 0141 AM one of our CSHO neighbors was approached by a man that wanted to enter their home because they were having chest pains.  When the neighbor refused because they did not know the individual the man became violent and ripped open the screen door and attempted to kick in the front door.  The man was accompanied by 3 other people 2 men and a women.  Description giving was 3 black men 1 white women ages from 40-50.  The neighbor and his family members held the door closed while calling the police and informing the suspect that they were doing so.  The police arrived and arrested one of the 4 individuals.  The other 3 got away.  If you see anything out the ordinary please call 911  and the Neighborhood watch captain.  Nothing Like this has ever occurred in our Neighborhood.  Let’s Work together to keep our Neighbors Safe.  If you See Something, Say Something.

Crime Prevention Tips

The Neighborhood Watch program is the most important tool in crime prevention. The basis of Neighborhood Watch is observation and reporting. The Neighborhood Watch sets up a communication network between the Omaha Police Department and the community.

What is Neighborhood Watch?

Neighborhood Watch is a program involving a group of concerned people working together with the Walker Police Department to drive crime from their neighborhood. Area residents get to know their
neighbors and work with them to spot and report suspicious activity to
the Police. This way neighborhoods and the Walker Police Department
work together towards the elimination of crime.
The security of the neighborhoods and its citizens depend heavily upon the people themselves. The Police
Department cannot function effectively unless it has the support and cooperation of the people it
serves. The Neighborhood Watch program establishes a communication system between the Police Department and the neighborhoods they serve. The best Neighborhood Watch Programs involve as many people as possible. Remember, we at the Omaha Police Department cannot do it without you! Together we can keep our neighborhoods safe for our families and ourselves. For more information regarding the Neighborhood
Watch Program, please Contact NE Precinct: Theola Cooper, theola.cooper@cityofomaha.org 402-444-3367

Crime Prevention Tips

Door and Locks The first step is to “harden the target” or make your home more difficult to enter. Remember the burglar will simply bypass your home if it requires too much effort or requires more skill and tools than they possess. Most burglars enter via the front, back, or garage doors. Experienced burglars know that the garage door is usually the weakest followed by the back door. The garage and back doors also provide the most cover. Burglars know to look inside your car for keys and other valuables so keep it locked, even inside your garage. Use high quality Grade-1 or Grade-2 locks on exterior doors to resist twisting, prying, and lock-picking attempts. A quality deadbolt lock will have a beveled casing to inhibit the use of channel-lock pliers used for forced entry. A quality door knob-in-lock set will have a ‘dead latch’ mechanism to prevent slipping the lock with a shim or credit card. • Use a solid core or metal door for all entrance points • Use a quality, heavy-duty, deadbolt lock with a one-inch throw bolt • Use a quality, heavy-duty, knob-in-lock set with a dead latch mechanism • Use a heavy-duty strike plate with 3-inch screws to penetrate into a wooden door frame • Use a wide-angle 160° peephole mounted no higher than 58 inches The most common way used to force entry through a door with a wooden frame is to kick it open. The weakest point is almost always the strike plate that holds the latch or lock bolt in place. The average door strike plate is secured with only one-half inch screws set into the door frame molding. These lightweight moldings are often tacked on to the door frame and can be torn away with a firm kick. Because of this construction flaw, it makes sense to upgrade to a four-screw, heavy-duty, high security strike plate. They are available in most quality hardware stores and home improvement centers and are definitely worth the extra expense. Install this strike plate using 3-inch screws to cut deep into the door frame stud. This one step alone will deter or prevent most through-the-door forced entries. You and your family will sleep safer
